マスクと食パン | A Mask and Slice of Bread
(English below)
何気ない日常の中で
目にするもの
耳にすること
口にするもの。
これらは全て
こどもに大きな影響がある、
それを実感したのはある朝のこと。
姪が大好きな
食パンを手にとって
ふふふっと
ふざけながら
口に当てて私に
「ねぇ、見てみてー！」
と言うのでよく見ると
「マスクー！」
と得意げに言ってきた。
(口だけでなく
顔面マスクのようだったので)
パンの隙間から
ちょっとだけ覗かせた
彼女の小さな目を見ながら
私は
「大きなマスクだねー！
なんだか美味しそう。」
と返しつつ、
心の中では、
複雑な思いが
行ったり来たりしていた。
このコロナの影響で
小さな
こどもたちの心の中に
少なからず
不安と戦う姿を
垣間見た気がした。
被害が
一日も早く
終息することを
願うばかりである。

In our daily lives,
what we see,
what we hear,
and
what we eat
seem to have a great impact on us, especially on children.
One morning,
I realized that the great impact of COVID-19 was on my niece as well.
When my loving niece was eating
a slice of bread,
I saw her playing around with it.
Then she said,
"Hey, look!"
When I looked at her closely,
she said,
"It’s a Mask!"
She was proudly saying
while covering her mouth.
(actually, it was covering not only her mouth but also almost half of her face)
Looking at her little eyes,
I replied back to her
saying
"It's such a big mask, isn’t it?
And it looks delicious."
In my heart,
I had mixed feelings about it.
Under home-quarantine,
the covid-19 offered a glimpse of its serious menace to us and even little children.
i just hope this situation with covid-19 will be better as soon as possible
and go back to a normal life
or at least a better/ safer one than now.
